let the number of planted trees be x
so the equation is  3x+2=77
 or, 3x+2=77
or,3x=77-2
or,3x=75
or,x=75/3
or,x=25

Hello....!!

Let's solve the problem...

Total number of trees planted = 102

Let number of fruit bearing trees be x

And the number of non fruit bearing trees be 3x+2

Hence the equation will be :-

102= x+3x+2
102-2 = 4x
100=4x
100/4=x
25=x

x= 25

Hence the number of fruit bearing trees= x=25

And the number of non fruit bearing trees= 3x+2
= (3×25)+2
= 75+2
= 77

Hope this helps....!!
