Hey Friend,
Atomic weights -
Cu - 64
S - 32
O - 16
H - 1
Molecular weight of CuSO4.5H2O -
= 64 + 32 + (16 x 4) + 5 (2 + 16)
= 64 + 32 + 64 + 90
= 250 grams
Molecular weight of H2O = 18 grams
Percentage composition = number of water molecules x molecular weight of one water molecule x 100
------------------------------------------------------------------
molecular weight of the compound
H2O % in CuSO4.5H2O = 5 x 18 x 100 / 250
= 36 %
Therefore, hydrated copper sulphate contains 36% water molecules.
Hope it helps!
