l = [P/2] - w

Let the length of two adjacent sides be x and y respectively.

The ratio of the length of two adjacent sides is x:y=7:9

⇒  y x

 =  9 7

⇒x=  9 7y

       ….(1)

Given: Perimeter of the rectangle=2×(sum of the length of two adjacent sides)

⇒64=2(x+y)

⇒64=2(  9 7y +y) ⇒64=2(  9 7y+9y  )

⇒16y=32×9

⇒y=  16 32×9

  =2×9=18 cm

Substitute the value of y=18cm in (1) we get

x=  9 7y

 =  9 7×18

=7×2=14 cm

Hence the length of two adjacent sides are 14 cm and 18 cm
