Question :

Perimeter of ∆ ABC is 10.4 cm, if BC = 3.8 cm. Find the sum of lengths of side AB and side AC.

Answer :

The sum of lengths of side AB and side AC is 6.6cm .

Solution :

Perimeter of ∆ ABC = 10.4 cm

AB + BC + CA = 10.4cm

AB + 3.8cm + CA = 10 4cm

[ reason (BC=3.8cm) ]

AB + CA = 10.4cm - 3.8 cm

AB + CA = 6.6 cm

Hence , The Sum of sides AB and CA are 6.6 cm .

Question

Here the concept of Perimetre of polygons is used.

Solution

The total perimetre of the triangle is given as 10.4 cm and the length of side BC is given as 3.8 cm.

In order to find the sum of side AB and AC we will subtract the side BC from the Perimeter.

Let's do it

Perimeter of triangle is given as

{\underline{\boxed{\sf{ \color{red}Perimetre \:  of  \: ∆ = sum \:  of  \: all  \:  sides }}}}

 \sf{\implies AB+AC+AB=10.4 cm} \\   \\  \sf{\implies AB+AC+ 3.8 = 10.4 cm} \\  \\  \sf{\implies AB+AC = 10.4 - 3.8 }\\  \\  \sf{\implies \color{green} AB+AC = 6.6 cm}  \\  \mathtt \color{orange}{Hence  \: the \:  sum \:  of  \: AB \:  and \:  AC \:  is \:  6.6 cm.}
