Periodic Motion

When a body repeats its motion on the same path in a given time , then the motion is said to be periodic motion .

vibratory Motion

If a body moves to and fro a fixed position , then its motion is called vlbratory Inotion or oscillatory motion . This motion in its simplesi form is also called SImple Harmonic Motion ( SHM ) . Simple pendulum is an example of this type of motion .

Important Terms Related to SHM

( i ) Displacement Displacerment of the body executing SHM at any time is equal to the distance between the position of body at that time and mean position . It is represented by y .

( 11 ) Amplitude Maximum displacement of the body executing SHM on either side of mean position is called its amplitude . It is represented by a .

( iii ) TIme period The time taken by the particle executing SHMA Completing one oscillation is called the time period of the particle It is represented by T . Its unit is second .

( iv ) Frequency The number of oscillations done by the body excuting SHM in one second is called its trequency , It is represented by n , its unit is hertz or per sec .
