Permanent marriage was the rule whether monogamy or polygamy in matriarchal theory is FALSE because in matriarchal theory where was no permanent marriage system and family.  In this theory  a woman had more than one husband and there was no, male head. The oldest female or mother is the head of the family. The earliest form of life was in a tribe or totem  group. Children of this group did not know their fathers and their mothers.
In today's modern world we find evidences of matriarchal theory in the Ancient people of Indonesia, Australia , Red Indians of North America, Malaya,  Madagascar.
The notable exponents of matriarchal theory are  McLennan, Morgan & Jenks.
