Answer:
by the elements valence electrons
Answer:
Hey, you can easily find the group of any element, provided, you know it's block. And again, it's very easy to determine the block, provided, you know it's electronic configuration. So, basically here's the method -:
Let's take Copper as an example.
Atomic no. of copper = 29
Electronic configuration of copper is as follows:
1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 3s2, 3p6, 4s2, 3d9
(I know its not the real config, but while finding group, we prefer the expected config. only)
So, we see that the last electron goes to the d-sub shell. This means that Copper belongs to the D-Block.
Now, to find the group of any element of d-block,
You should add 2 to its valence electron.
Here, valence electrons = 9
so, group = 9 + 2 = 11
For elements of S-Block:
if the no. of electrons in the s-subshell = 1
the element belongs to group 1, while if the no. of electrons in the s-subshell is 2, it belongs to the 2nd group.
For elements of P-Block:
Add 12 to the valence electrons in the last shell.
For elements of the D-Block:
Add 2 to the valence electrons.
