Plant reproduction means producing new offspring in plants, which happens either by sexual or asexual methods.
Sexual reproduction in plants involves fusion of gametes which result in offspring that are genetically different from the parents.
Sexual reproduction occurs mainly in flowering plants, where the male and female gametes are formed. The male gametes are transferred to the female ovules by pollination which leads to fertilization and a diploid zygote is formed. The ovules grow into seeds inside a fruit.
Asexual reproduction involves the production of plant offspring without the fusion of gametes. The offspring are genetically identical to the parent plants.
Asexual reproduction can be by vegetative reproduction which involves a vegetative piece of the plant by methods like budding, tillering etc. , or by parthenogenesis, which is dispersal of seeds. Apomixis also involves generation of bulbils instead of flowers.
