Person travels 6km towards west, then travels 5km towards north ,then finally travels 6km towards west. where is he with respect to his starting position?

We need to find the distance between A and B.

Horizontal distance = 6 + 6 = 12 km

Vertical distance = 5 km

Hence using Pythagoras theorem,we need to have

⇒AB2 = 122 + 52

⇒AB2 = 144 + 25

⇒AB2 = 169

⇒AB = 13

Hence, distance between starting point and end point = 13 km

And the direction is of course north west as we can observe from the above image
