Potato is a major food crop, grown in more than 100 countries in the world and it is one of the major commercial crops grown in India. India ranks third by contributing around 7.5% to the world’s production.Potato is cultivated in Nilgiris district of TamilNadu throughout the year in an area of 4800 hectare with the annual production of 80.6 metric tonnes.The area under potato crop is slowly declined due to various biotic and abiotic factors. Severe incidence of pest and diseases are being observed due to climate changes throughout the Nilgiris. Most of the potato growing farmers being native tribals of the Nilgiris, theyare unaware about the newly emerging pests and diseases, their diagnosis and timely application of suitable management technologies.
