Simile and personification both are poetic devices, usually used in poems though.

• Simile - It's a figure of speech which do involves the comparison of something with another thing, like one thing compared with other.

For example -

As brave as Lion.

She has AS MELODIOUS VOICE AS a nightingale.

• Metaphor - It's a figure of speech , in which the standard or literal meaning of a word denoting a thing, quality, action is applied in form of a statement.

Example - She is a red rose.

• Personification - A figure of speech where a non-living thing is shown as living, is imagined as living.

For example - The car was tired and needed some petrol to drink.

Sentence is written as if car is a human being and it is tired and needed something to gain energy.

____________

The brook <= This poem is one of the best examples of personification, the river is imagined as living.
