Pertaining to elements of the first three periods :-. (1) The number of electrons shells in period 1 , 2 and 3 respectively. (2) the period number of the element 'X' having electronic configuration 2 , 8 , 8 , 1 .​

That electronic configuration is of Potassium. If you see, it has four shells therefore will belong to the fourth period.
