No doubt they increase the fertility of the soil but they also result in degrading the soil.They pollute the soil as:-

1)The chemicals present in the fertilizers and pesticides kill the microorganisms present in soil which help in increasing the fertility of soil naturally by their waste products.So if they are killed,the soil has no way of regaining its fertility naturally.

2)The various harmful chemicals present in them may also harm the soil in one way or another.

They pollute the water as:-

1)The chemicals present in them ,which don't mix with the soil get carried away by water in any water body or underground water which then leads to water pollution.

Hence,despite their advantages they also have bad effects on soil and water ,hence they are termed as pollutants.

Answer:

Yes they do pollute our environment but for farms more than 50 hectares its not convenient to add so much manure so pesticides are used but in farms less than 50 hectares pollution can be controlled by adding manure or cowdung.
