And he sold out 60% more than he ate therefore we first find 60% of X which is 0.6X.

X * 60/100 = 0.6X

Now he said that he sold 60% more than he eat

Therefore the total apples he sold is equal to

X+ 0.6X= 1.6X (equation 1)

And the total apples he sold is 80 (given).

Now we equate both

1.6X = 80

X= 80/ 1.6

X= 50

Therefore the apples he ate is 50.
