Answer:

Peter’s age = 35 and tom’s age = 15;

Lets Peter’s age is ‘P’ and Tom’s age is ‘T’,

then, according question 10 years ago sum of their ages was 30,

which means (P-10) + (T-10) = 30;

solving this P-10+T-10 = 30;

(P+T)-20 = 30;

(P+T) = 50;

and after 5 years Peter’s age is going to be double of Tom’s age,

that means (P+5) = 2*(T+5);

solving this above equation (P+5) = (2T+10);

adding -(2T+10) on both sides we get,

(P+5)-(2T+10) = 0;

P+5–2T-10 = 0;

adding T and subtracting T ,

P+T-T-2T-10+5 = 0;

(P+T)-3T-5 = 0;

substitute (P+T) = 50 in above equation;

50–3T-5 = 0;

3T = 50 - 5 ;

3T = 45;

T =45/3;

T = 15;

and substitute T = 15 in (P+T) = 50 ;

P + T = 50;

P + 15 = 50;

P = 50 -15;

P = 35 ;
