Peter Thomson (88), who was among one of Australia’s prominent golfers and the winner of the five-time Open Championship has died in Melbourne on June 20, 2018. In 1954, he was the first Australian to challenge and won the Open Championship in Britain. Among various accolades, Thomson was selected as the chief of the Organization of the British Empire (CBE) in 1979 and also made the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2001.
