It is true that petrol does not react with sodium or potassium. However, it is still not used to do preserve highly reactive metals like sodium and potassium because if accidentally sodium or potassium comes in contact of open air or water, then they react vigorously releasing a large amount of heat energy. This in turn , can prove more disastrous since petrol is a inflammable liquid which in turn will stimulate the caught fire and will result in a more dangerous fire leading to heavy loss in property nearby.
