we have to find the pH of 10¯³ M KOH solution.

solution :

dissociation reaction of KOH is..

KOH ⇔ K⁺ + OH¯

we see, one mole of KOH forms 1 mole of OH¯ ions.

so, concentration of OH¯ = [OH¯] = 10¯³ M

we know,

ionic product of water , kw = [H⁺][OH¯] = 10¯¹⁴

so, [H⁺] × 10¯³ = 10¯¹⁴

⇒[H⁺] = 10¯¹¹ M

from Arrhenius formula, pH = -log[H⁺]

= -log(10¯¹¹) = 11

Therefore the pH of 10¯³ M KOH is 11
