Sugar is a pH-neutral substance, meaning that its pH value is usually more or less than 7, but close. However, raw and unprocessed sugar is slightly basic in nature, while white sugar and brown sugar are both slightly acidic.

It turns red when added to an acidic solution & turns blue when added to a basic solution. Litmus is available in the form of a solution, or in the forms of strips of paper available asred and blue litmus paper.
