Both the leaders wanted to get freedom from french but in considerably different ways.

Phan chu trinh wanted to overthrow monarchy in order to form a basis of popular rights by establishing democracy. His opinion was not to get freedom from French rule through monarchy. He was much influenced by French culture so he accepted it.

Phan Boi Chau who was much influenced by confucian tradition and was in favour of driving out French using the monarchy. He wished that first the foreign enemy should be driven out after their nation's freedom restored, they could talk about other things.

Both Phan Boi Chau and Phan Chau Trinh were Vietnamese nationalists to the core. Both were absolutely anti-colonialists and worked to free Vietnam from the French domination.

Chau and Trinh, both wanted to modernise Vietnam.

In short, both Chau and Trinh were looking at the same end – a free sovereign modern Vietnam.

However, they differed on the means to pursue the same end. Their views on different issues can be briefly tabulated as follows :(see the above image)
