Anti-inflammatory and most of the metabolic actions of glucocorticoids commence with their binding to specific receptors within the cytoplasm of targeted cells. The receptor-steroid complex then migrates into the nucleus, where it binds to DNA and alters genetic synthesis of proteins.

Cortisol is the chief glucocorticoids.

They increase the blood glucose level by promoting gluconeogenesis they also promote proteolysis and lypolysis.

They promote RBC synthesis and regulate cardiovascular and renal functions ....

Also have anti inflammatory and immunosuppressant action .....

The hyposecretion of cortisol causes Cushing syndrome ...
