Phenol and benzoic acid can be distinguish on the basis of NaHCO3 test. 
Sodium carbonate :Carboxylic acid when reacts with sodium carbonates to evolve CO2 ( brisk effervescence are produced).
2CH3COOH + Na2CO3 → 2CH3COONa + CO2 + H2O​
​No such reaction occur with phenol.
