In case of alkyl aryl ethers, the products are always phenol and alkyl halide and never an aryl halide and alcohol. This is due to the fact that O—C6H5 bond has partial double bond and is stronger than O—R bond. Therefore, halide ion exclusively breaks the O—R bond forming alkyl halide and phenol.
