it is a stronger acid because it releases h + ions is a solution. ethanol in some conditions can be even acidic and basic. which means that ethanol is a weak acid

On the other hand, in the case of ethanol neither ethanol nor ethoxide ion is stabilized by resonance. Hence, they behave as weaker acids than phenols.
