The wave like contractions is to increase the surface area When you eat heavily the contractions in the stomach will expand and provide the necessary area to digest
In intestines also there are micro villi which has crypts of Liber Kuhn through which the necessary food substances are taken into our blood On increasing the surface area it stimulates a nerve which will reach hypothalamus and give a relaxed sensation
