Phil is Tom's father. Phil is 35 years old. Three years ago, Phil was four times as old as his son was then. How old is Tom now?​

Let’s come to solution.

Phil’s present age is 35.

so 3 years ago his age was 32.

let us assume Tom’s Present age is X.

So 3 years ago Tom’s age was (X-3)

question is saying 3 year ago Phil was four times as old as his son was then.

so it means that 4*Tom’s age 3 years ago= Phil’s age 3 years ago

4*(X-3)=32

(X-3)=32/4

(X-3)=8

X=8+3

X=11

We assumed that Tom’s Present Age is X

So Tom is 11 years Old now.
