phoshorus and chlorine form two compounds contains 22.54% by mass of phosporus and 77.46%by mass of chlorine .In second compound the percentage are 14.88% for phosphorus and 85.12% for chlorine show that these data are consistent with law of multiple proportion

in the first compound 77.46gm of chlorine combine with 22.54 gm of phosphorous, therefore 1 gm of chlorine combines with 22.54/77.46=0.290 gm of phosphorous.
in the second compound 85.12 gm of chlorine combine with 14.88 gm of phosphorous ,therefore 1 gm of chlorine combines with =14.88/85.12=0.174 gm of phosphorous comparing the weights of phosphorous that combine with the same amount of chlorine :0.290:0.174≈2:1
thus law of multiple proportion is satisfied.

Answer:

yes

Explanation:

in the first compound 77.46gm of chlorine combine with 22.54 gm of phosphorous, therefore 1 gm of chlorine combines with 22.54/77.46=0.290 gm of phosphorous.

in the second compound 85.12 gm of chlorine combine with 14.88 gm of phosphorous ,therefore 1 gm of chlorine combines with =14.88/85.12=0.174 gm of phosphorous comparing the weights of phosphorous that combine with the same amount of chlorine :0.290:0.174≈2:1

thus law of multiple proportion is satisfied.
