Plants do the photosynthesis with the help of chlorophyll. Bacteria also contain a similar compound called bacteriochlorophyll, which allows the bacteria to perform photosynthesis for food

Chromatophores found in membrane part of the bacterial cell perform photosynthesis.

Explanation:

Chromatophores are specialized cell present in the photoautotrophic bacteria which are involved in production of light harvesting protein. When this protein is synthesized in body of bacteria, it traps sunlight and performs photosynthesis.

The light harvesting protein secreted by Chromatophores imitates the chlorophyll in its functioning. Examples of such bacteria include Cyanobacteria, purple bacteria such as Rhodospirillum rubrum etc.
