Answer: Photosynthesis is a process of synthesis of food ( which is a carbohydrate) by green plants and algae using CO2 ( carbon dioxide) and H2O ( water) in the presence of sunlight. It primarily occurs in the organelle called chloroplast.

This organelle contains a green pigment that is termed as chlorophyll, which absorbs the energy from sunlight in the light dependent phase that further helps in the synthesis of food ( in the light independent phase).
