Generally leaf is photo synthetic organ in plants.
In some plants leaves are modified into thorns/ tendrils to reduce the transpiration. In such case stem take the responsibility of synthesis of food materials by acquiring chlorophyll. This modified stem is known as phylloclade. Ex. Opuntia
In some plants leaf lamina modifies into spines/tendrils. In such case remaining parts of leaf except leaf lamina like petiole, auxiliary buds, rachis take responsibility of photo synthesis. This modified leaf part is called phyllod. Ex.parkinsonia

"In vascular plants, the process of photosynthesis is carried out by flattened structures known as leaves. But in some plants leaves are absent. Instead, stems act as photosynthetic organs. Opuntia is a species of cactus that belongs to the subfamily Opuntioideae.
