Phyllotaxy is the pattern of arrangement of leaves on the stem or branch of a plant. There are mainly three types:
Alternate: When a single leaf arises from each node, in an alternate manner. E.g: Chinarose, sunflower etc.
Opposite: In this type, pairs of leaves arise at each node and lie opposite each other. E.g: Calotropis, guava etc,
Whorled: More than two leaves arise at each node and are arranged in the form of a whorl. E.g: Nerium, devil tree etc.
