Answer:

The two salt solutions can be distinguished using either dilute hydrochloric acid or dilute sulphuric acid.

When the zincate solution is acidified with hydrochloric acid (acid added in excess), no precipitation occurs as the zinc chloride formed is fairly soluble in water.

Na2ZnO2 (aq) + 4HCl (aq) = 2NaCl (aq) + ZnCl2 (aq) + 2H2O

But the plumbite solution produces a white precipitate of sparingly soluble lead(II) chloride on the addition of the acid.

Na2PbO2 (aq) + 4HCl (aq) = 2NaCl (aq) + PbCl2 (s) + 2H2O

Similary, with dil.H2SO4, the plumbite solution gives a white precipitate of insoluble lead sulphate, PbSO4. On the other hand, the zincate solution fails to form any precipitate as the zinc sulphate formed is fairly soluble in water.
