Acetic Acid:

  • Physical properties: Colorless liquid with a strong, corrosive pungent odor.
  • Density is 1.05 g/mL, and boiling point is 118 °C.
  • It has a characteristic sour taste, and is highly miscible in water.

Alcohol:

  • Alcohols are soluble in water, due to the hydroxyl group in the alcohol which is able to form hydrogen bons with water molecules.
  • As the length of the hydrocarbon chain increases, the solubility in water decreases.
