physical properties of alkenes
Answers
Alkenes are not very reactive and have little biological activity; all alkenes are colourless and odourless. Generally, they have low boiling point. Due to their low boiling points, lower alkenes are highly volatile. The melting point of alkenes do not show a very smooth gradation with the increase in molecular mass. The density of alkenes increase with increasing molecular masses but become constant at about 0.8 g cm^-3. This means that all alkenes are lighter than water.

Physical properties of Alkenes :
➻ First 4 members are gases. C5-C17 are liquids and higher alkenes are solids.
➻ They are non polar hence soluble in non polar solvents and insoluble in water.
➻ Cis isomers have higher dipole moment ans hence have higher boiling point where as melting point of cis isomers are low due to poor symmetry.
