THIS IS YOUR ANSWER DEAR!!!!!
It's the second hardest substance in earth. Earlier, it was the hardest material made up of carbon compound but now another compound os ever harder than diamond, that is nano carbon tube. It's a non metal which is lustrous and it is formed in deep under the earth when coal gets enough pressure and heat to get converted to diamond .
It's also used as a cutting device in industrial purpose for strong and hard metals. It has a high melting point also.
hope this helps you dear....

Hey user !!

Here is your answer !!

☆___________________________________________☆

♦♦ INTRODUCTION ♦♦

♦Diamond occur in nature it has physical properties.

♦In structure Diamond has each carbon atom which is attached to other four carbon atoms by strong single covalent bonds.

♦♦ PHYSICAL PROPERTIES ♦♦

1) Hardness

♦ The three dimensional network structure of Diamonds makes it the hardest natural substance known.

2) High melting point

♦ Due to network structure the carbon atoms in diamond are closely packed and hands Diamond has high density.

3) Electrical and thermal conductivity

♦ Since all the four valence electrons are firmly held in Carbon-Carbon single bond

♦ There are no free electrons in a diamond crystal therefore diamond is a bad conductor of electricity .

♦ However it has the highest thermal conductivity of any substance known.

♦ It is because of this reason that the Diamond tipped Tools do not over heat and hands are extremely used for drilling and cutting purposes.

4) Transparency

♦ Because of high refractive index diamonds can reflect and refractive light as a result Diamonds Are transparent substances.

Hope it is satisfactory :-)
