Magnesium oxide (MgO), or magnesia, is a white hygroscopic solid mineral that occurs naturally as periclase and is a source of magnesium (see also oxide). It has an empirical formula of MgO and consists of a lattice of Mg2+ ions and O2− ionsheld together by ionic bonding.

JewelJames: can youplease tell me the physical state
Jitendrabharti: read the answer carefully line by line
JewelJames: Thank you
JewelJames: sorry
Jitendrabharti: its ok man

Magnesium Oxide is a white powder type compound which is found naturally and can be formed artificially in a lab by burning a Magnesium ribbon . Magnesium reacts with oxygen when burned in presence of air to form 2MgO . Transfer of electrons take place in this reaction from Mg atom to O atom . It is joined by an Electro valent bond So it's melting point is very high and it is a good conductor of electricity
