A person who is interested in developing a relationship with someone because they are handicapped is called a Devotee. Not all such relationships are sexually based, but many are, as the Devotee tends to fetishize their partner.
The desire, in and of itself, is not bad. It is a very specific preference. It could become a problem if you ONLY want to be friends with handicapped individuals, to the exclusion of everyone else.
Much like someone who has a fascination for Asian people, or Native Americans, or fat women … yes, there are people who are “BBW Lovers.”
As others have said, one of the difficulties Devotee’s face is that many handicapped individuals are … to put it mildly … turned off by that attitude. Some of us find it extremely insulting and creepy. It is definitely a turn off.
