Physics Give the brief description about the types of inertia with examples. (prepare a chart)
Answers
Inertia: The resistance of the object to any change its motion unless it is acted upon by an outside force is called Inertia.
Types:
- Inertia at rest
- Inertia of motion
- Inertia of direction
Inertia at rest: The inability of a body to change its state of rest is known as Inertia of Rest.
Example: Person sitting in a car falls backwards.
Inertia of motion: The inability of the body to any change its state of motion is known as inertia of motion.
Example: Person sitting in a car falls forward when breaks are applied
Inertia of direction: The inability of a body to change its direction of motion by itself is called as inertia of direction.
Example: Person sitting in a car falls side wards when the car turns.
Let's start with what is inertia
Inertia-
Inertia is a property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force.
Types-
There are 3 types of inertia-
1) Inertia at rest-
It is inability of a body to change by itself, its state of rest of i.e. a body at rest cant start moving on its own.
Example-
When you sit in a car and it starts you lean backward.
Dust particles on a carpet fall if we beat the carpet with a stick.
2) Inertia of motion-
It is inability of a body to change by itself, its state of uniform motion of i.e. a body in uniform motion neither accelerates or decelerates without some external force acting on it.
Example-
an athlete takes certain distance before he jumps up as the velocity of running is added to velocity of jump.
a ball rolling down a hill will continue to do so unless external friction is applied
3) Directional inertia-
It is inability of a body to change by itself, its direction i.e. a body continues to move along the same straight line unless compelled by some external force.
Example-
when a knife is sharpened on grinding stone, the sparks fly off in tangential direction.
rotating wheels of a vehicle throughout mud in a tangential direction.
