1. Marusthali, also known as Rajasthan Desert or Thar Desert, is a western part of the Rajasthan Plain.
2. It stretches from the Rann of Kachchh up to Punjab. It is about 650 Km long and 300Km wide covering eight districts of western Rajasthan.
3. It is characterized by shifting sand dunes (small hill), extreme climate, sparse vegetation and thin population. The dunes are classified as seif or Barkhan on the basis of their shape, size and wind direction.
4. There are two salt lakes in Bikaner district.
