What are verbs?

Verbs are the actions performed by the object in a sentence. There may be multiple verbs in a sentence.

Identifying verbs is very easy, just look at what the object is doing and that “what” is the answer.

Example » Priya was dancing all night.

Here, dancing is the verb and it is in present tense.

• Tenses indicate if the action is being performed, has been performed or will be performed. If you notice an “ing” at the end of the verb then it is in present tense. If you see an “ed” at the end then it is in past tense. Finally, if you find a “will” before the verb then it is in future tense.

So, here we start off with our answer ↓

1) Vibhor is meeting Tanya for lunch tomorrow. (Ask this question, what is Vibhor doing with Tanya for lunch tomorrow? . And you get the answer.

meeting is the verb. It is in present tense.

2) The aeroplane had landed before we arrived at the airport.

Landed and arrived are the verbs and they both are in past tense.

3) I had been working in the garden.

had been working is the verb and it is in past perfect tense.

4) What are you doing here?

doing is the verb and it's in present tense.
