a word can be chosen as a verb when it shows / describes an action.

from the given sentences,

" spoke", "yawning" and "scolded " are the verbs.

transitive verb can change the situation and may cause some affect and intransitive don't.

So , spoke and yawning are intransitive whereas scolded is transitive.
