Indian architecture was greatly enhanced by the Mughal emperors. The Mughals built a lot of mosques, mausoleums, forts, cities, and gardens which are admired till date.
The mughal architecture started its commencent during Humayun’s reign and reached its zenith during Shah Jahan’s reign with the construction of the Taj Mahal.
A few examples of the monuments built by the Mughals in India are:
1. Fatehpur Sikri – In Agra, built by Akbar.
2. Sikandra – Near the Agra fort. Also called as the “Tomb of Akbar the Great”.
3. Agra Fort – UNESCO World Heritage site. Built by Akbar.
4. Buland Darwaza - Built by Akbar during his conquest of Gujarat.
5. Humayun's tomb - includes the graves of many mughal rulers.
6. Red Fort - Built by Shah Jahan.
7. Taj Mahal - Built by Shah Jahan in Agra on the banks of river Yamuna.
8. Qutub Minar - in Delhi, built by Qutb-ud-din Aibak.
