Explanation: Take two rod of iron and another of aluminum, some wax pieces, a watch that reads in second, a candle. Fix some pieces of wax along the rods 5 CM apart from each. Bring candle flame at the free end of the rods to heat. Observe the pieces of wax fixed along the rods. The wax pieces begin to fall one after another. Record the time taken to fall the wax pieces.

Why do the wax pieces fall? Heat transferred from the candle flame through the metal rods. The wax piece nearer the flame starts melting first and fall, than the others fall next to next.

Replace the rods with different materials. If you are using wooden and plastic rods cover them with a metal sheet so that they may not catch fire.

OBSERVATION : HEAT flows along the rod from candle flames.

Hence, the wax pieces melt and fall one after the other. The rate of flow of heat is different in different substances.
