Given :- pipe A and pipe B can fill a tank in 7.5 hours.if pipe A fills the tank 8 hours faster than pipe B,in how many hours will pipe B fill the tank alone ?

Answer :-

Let Pipe B can fill the tank in x hours . So, Pipe A will fill the tank in (x - 8) hours .

A/q,

→ 1/x + 1/(x - 8) = 7.5 = 15/2

→ (x - 8 + x) /x(x - 8) = 15/2

→ 4x - 16 = 15x² - 120x

→ 15x² - 124x + 16 = 0

solving this we get,

→ x = 2[√901 + 31]/15 , 2[-√901 + 31]/15

→ x = 2(30 + 31)/15 , time cant be less than 1 hour

→ x = 122/15 = 8.133 hours (Ans.)
