pipe A takes 12 hour to fill the tank hence it fills 1/12th of tank in an hour and pipe B empties in 18 hours hence in an hour in 1 hour it empties 1/18th of tank let B is opened for t hours and the total system takes 14 hours to fill the tank so solving the equation (1/12-1/18)*t+(14-t)*1/12=1 it gives t=3 therefore pipe B is closed at 9 am
