Answer:

b=24hours

Step-by-step explanation:

a=12hours

a+b=8hours

1/a+1/b =1/8

Given : Pipe A can fill a tank in 12 hours. When it works along with Pipe B, it can fill the tank in 8 hours

To find:   In how many hours can pipe B fill the same tank independently

Solution:

Pipe A can fill a tank in 12 hours.

=> pipe A can fill tank in 1 hr = 1/12

Let say Pipe B can fill Tank in  B Hrs

Then Pipe B can fill tank in 1 hrs = 1/B

Pipe A & B together can fill tank in  8 hrs

=> Pipe A & B together can fill in 1 hr = 1/8

1/12  +  1/B  = 1/8

multiplying by 24 on both sides

=> 2 + 24/B  = 3

=> 24/B = 1

=> B = 24

pipe B fill the same tank independently in 24 hrs
