Answer:

When both the pipes H and I are opened the tank will overflow in 5 min.50 sec.

Step-by-step explanation:

Time taken by pipe H to fill the tank =35 min.

Part of tank filled by pipe H in 1 min. = 1/35

Time taken by pipe I to fill the tank = 35 /5 =7 min.

Part of tank filled by pipe I in 1 min. 1/7

Part of tank filled in 1 min. when pipe H and I both are opened= (1/35 ) +(1/7)

                                                                                            = (1+ 5)/ 35

                                                                                            = 6/35

Time taken by pipe H and I when both are opened = 35 /6 min.

                                                                                     = 5 min. 50 sec.
