According to the terms of the Pitt's Act, all further conquests of territories in India were to be stopped, but the British did not adhere to it strictly. They resorted to fresh conquests to find newer sources of raw materials and fresh markets for their goods. But on the whole, Pitt's Act served its purpose. It laid a solid foundation for British rule in India.
