GIVEN :

Piyush's marks in Mathematics were wrongly read as 65 instead of 85.

TO FIND :

The percentage error in the marks.

SOLUTION :

\text{percentage error} = \frac{\text{error}}{actual value}\times 100

First we calculate the error by subtracting one value from  the other.

85 - 65 = 20

Now divide the value by the exact value, and multiply by 100 to find the value in percentage.

Percentage error  =\frac{20}{85}\times 100

                              = 23.5294118 ≈ 23.53%

The percentage error in the marks is 23.53%.
