Let the speed of Joseph = x km/h

Let the speed of Hamid = y km/h

Case 1. ]
Approaching one another, combined speed = (x+y)km/h

Time taken to meet = 30/(x+y) = 1/3  (20 minutes = 1/3 hours)

x+y = 90 ------ [ i ]

Case 2. ]
When moving in opposite direction, combined speed = (x-y)km/h

Time taken for Hamid to catch up = 30/(x-y) = 3

x-y = 10 ----[ ii ]

Solving [ i ] and [ ii ] simultaneously,

x = 40
n'
y = 50

Hence,

Speed of Joseph = x = 40km/h
Speed of Hamid = y = 50km/h

Answer:

Let the speed of Hamid and Joseph be x km/h and y km/h respectively.

according to given condition

x/3+y/3=30---------.1.  because 20 mins in hrs be like 1/3 hrs so distance=speed*time

3x-3y=3--------2

by solving these 2 simultaneous equations you will get your answers.
